I’m a contemporary visual artist from Ireland. I graduated from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) in the year 2000. I’m primarily a painter (although I’ve done some sculpture and installations as well) and I write this weekly art blog.
My art is often a response to stories in the media; I find myself being affected by a sense of frustration on the one hand and by fear and anxiety on the other, and these feelings have coloured my work over recent years. I have made art about the Irish diaspora, art about Homelessness, and more recently, art about Climate change.
I won the Golden Fleece Award for my painting in 2008. In 2010, I was shortlisted for the Davy Portrait Award and I won the ESB Keating McLaughlin Medal at the Royal Hibernian Academy Exhibition that same year.
The painting above is a self-portrait but I don’t always look that worried)
My work is in the collections of: The OPW (the state art collection of Ireland), AXA Insurance, AIB Bank, Bank of Ireland, The University of Limerick, Wesley College, the Boyle Civic Collection, Donegal County Council and in many private collections in Ireland and abroad.
I am one of the founder members of the art group called Tondo. We have had exhibitions in all sorts of strange places – in a railway station, a lighthouse, a public park, a crate – but we also had a show in The National Gallery of Ireland.
I am a member of Visual Artists Ireland (VAI)
As you will see in my Biography, I have had several solo shows around Ireland, and I have participated in various selected exhibitions ( RHA, Iontas, Éigse, Oireachtas ) and in other group shows in Ireland, England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Georgia, China and the USA.
I am represented by the Olivier Cornet Gallery
