Apples and Art Books

oil painting of red apple by Eoin Mac Lochlainn

Such a crop of apples we had this year. Their rosy lusciousness bending the branches to near-breaking point. I had an idea that it might be so when I saw the amount of apple blossom on the tree, earlier this year (see below).

Before I go on, my regular readers will have noticed that the blog looks totally different this week. Yes, I’m trying out this new look and adding some extra pages as well.  What do you think – I’d love to hear your feedback.

You’ll notice that the speech bubble for your comments is gone – but you can leave a comment down at the very bottom of this page (please do). Or if you’d like to write to me more privately, you could always send me an email at eoinmaclochlainn@gmail.com

Yes but I’m also writing about apples this week because, believe it or not, one of my apple paintings has appeared in a cookbook. An Artists’ Cookbook! This tasty book features artwork by Irish and international artists and a favourite recipe by each of the artists. (My choice was Fionnuala’s Apple Tart, of course).

But seriously, the book is raising much needed funds for doctors, emergency services and internally displaced people in Syria & Iraq. The idea started with Scoop, a fundraising machine created by two Irish brothers – Andy & Calvin – to help change the lives of impoverished children in Cambodia & India. They are now working in the Middle East. They need your support! Check out the link below.

  1. I like the new layout Eoin. Congrats on the painting and book contribution, having tasted Fionnuala’s cakes and pastries, that is sure to be a well thumbed page.

    • Hello again John, nice to hear from you. We have loads of apples at this time of year of course, especially the South Kilkenny varieties, but at the moment she has a yearning for figs for some reason – and we discovered some lovely fig jam on our travels recently. yum yum 🙂
