Colour – it’s nearly always the use of colour that attracts me to a painting so hopefully now, I’m in for a treat this Thursday, at Gormley’s Fine Art for the opening of a language manycoloured. It’s a group show curated by Bernadette Madden and includes artists Veronica Bolay RHA, John Hearne, John O’Reilly, John O’Connor, Bernadette Madden and – yours truly.
“Colour is an important part of most artists’ repertoire”, writes Madden, “and all six artists featuring in this exhibition are noteworthy for their very individual and personal colour palettes. Though their painting styles and subject matter differ, these artists are connected by a rigorous use of colour and the exhibition explores how they each utilise colour in different ways”.
The images above are two of my paintings from the show.
(I have five in all. Check out http://www.gormleys.ie/)
And the title? It’s from James Joyce’s Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. For more about that, see: http://www.shmoop.com/portrait-of-the-artist-as-a-young-man/language-communication-quotes-3.html
